Osteopathic Medicine

OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE & PHYSICIANS [D.O.'S] are medical doctors having completed 4 years of internship and at least 3 years of residency training.  This is basically the same medical training as an M.D., except for two major distinctions.  The first being that the osteopathic physician examines and treats the person as a whole [holistic] and the second being the thorough understanding of the anatomy and the development of special skills in diagnosing and treating structural problems through manipulative therapy.

Osteopathic medicine involves the doctor recognizing that all body systems, including the musculoskeletal system [comprising of the muscles, ligaments, tendons, bones] are interdependent, and a disturbance in one causes altered function in the other systems of the body.  Through appropriately applied musculoskeletal manipulation, musculoskeletal disorders can be almost immediately reduced and structural function returned to normal.
